Next to the Flame

Duval County Veterans Memorial Wall

January 18, 2014

I would like to create a series for this space. It’s the Duval County Veterans Memorial Wall. At this time of day, the sky reflects beautifully off of what looks like granite to me. Names of soldiers from the Persian Gulf War to the Vietnam War to the Korean War all etched into this wall.

I always gravitate towards flames. I assume this flame never goes out, though this was the first time I visited this part of Jacksonville more closely. Usually, I’m passing by while going over one of the bridges in the distance.

Perhaps my professor will allow me to use this as one of my assignments. Then, I’ll have adequate time to study the area more closely and capture better angles than I have so far.
