Greetings,
It has been over a week since my last blog post, so I want to catch up with you all on a few subjects.
My oldest nephew is in college studying Culinary. Recently, his focus has shifted specifically to Baking. I’ve had the opportunity to photograph a few of his home-made creations as he learns how to perfect his technique along the way…

I was tired just watching him prepare some of these cupcakes. You really have to have a passion for what you’re doing to make home-made frosting along with the cupcakes and donuts from scratch.

I always value presentation in my work, no matter the subject. You don’t get a second chance with first impressions. His project gave me the opportunity to practice my Food Photography skills. Considering I rarely photograph food, it was a great challenge for me. I love the subtlety of naturally lighting a scene. It doesn’t work in all cases, but it fits here.

I am not sure what type of cupcake this is. By that point, I told myself, ‘Eric, you’ve already had too much sugar for one day.’ 🙂

Finally, my favorite… Oreos galore. Delicious! My nephew would look over my photos and pick out the one he liked best. This particular shot made the cut. To be honest, it was the biggest challenge to get this scene composed correctly, with the proper amount of natural light, while the focal point landed directly in the center of the Oreo cookie.
During the process, something was always off. Because I used a slow shutter speed, many of the images were too blurry. Still, this capture turned out just right (I’m relieved).
I hope everyone is having a great start to the Fall Season.
